Concept and Features:

Bombora: The Indigenous Australian name given to the sea where waves are formed over a shallow area.

Centered around angles and outstretched concrete planes, Bombora is a surfer’s escape from reality. The inspiration driving the design was to seamlessly blend the boundaries between the surrounding ocean and the interior, allowing for a sense of tranquillity no matter where you are in the home.

Featuring ribbon walls of floor to ceiling glass allowing for sweeping views of the surrounding ocean and headlands. Senses are heightened when circulating through the interior - the salty, sea breeze to the layering of cotton, natural oak and wicker, a Danish sense of hygge in a seaside location. The warmth found in these materials is juxtaposed by the soft, cool hues of blue, inspired by the overlooked ocean below, highlighted in the upstairs entertaining area where you get lost in the expansive view.

A cascading, angular staircase, allows for three separate levels to outreach from its core - a feature that leads to an accentuated hallway and connects to each bedroom. Within the main bedroom, rippled glass is placed above the bed, allowing for shadows and light to dance off the furniture below as if the client is under waves looking up to the sunlight. This gives the space another element of depth, that transitions from day to night. Finally, sandstone walls, inspired by the surrounding headland, encapsulates a 6 meter infinity pool and outdoor shower, linking the views with the indoor living, dining and kitchen.
